Technical Specifications
Low-Res/High-Res Graphics

Files for print generally need to be scanned/drawn at 300dpi. What looks great on screen at 72dpi would look pretty bad when printed. Boosting the resolution from 72 to 300dpi in a paint program (Photoshop - Paint Shop Pro etc.) doesn't normally work as this just interpolates the image, i.e. adds similar coloured pixels to the image, which in turn can 'up' the image size but makes for a more 'blurry' effect.
Need further help with graphic formats email your problem to us.

Before submitting any artwork please ensure fonts and images are included in your ZIP file on on your CD.

Please note: If Artwork or Design is instigated on your behalf, this would be invoiced at the normal rates irrespective of whether the job is printed or not.

Please direct any graphics-related query to Tim on the following number:- 020 7193 0856

 * Mad Print our sister company only accepts JPG, TIFF, PDF and EPS files for upload. Word and Publisher
files should be submitted here for conversion. For other applications please see our specific instructions.

 * The colour mode of submitted files must be CMYK. If your files are submitted using any other colour
standard, such as RGB or Pantone, they will be converted to CMYK. Conversion from one colour standard
to another may cause colours to shift.

 * Resolution must be at least 300 dots per inch (DPI) at the final output size. Do not try to change from a low
resolution to a higher one by increasing the DPI in your imaging program, you will need to create the file at
the correct resolution initially. A low resolution image may look OK on your screen but will not print well.

 * All business card files should measure 85 mm x 54 mm for landscape or 54 mm x 85 mm for portrait
(please add 3mm additional space for bleeds and trimming on all sides).

 * Bleeds: Any time an image or colour is printed to the edge of a page, it must extend beyond the final
dimensions of your job to allow for cutting.

 * Bleed must be exactly 3 mm.

 * Safety Margin: Text or artwork you wish to preserve must be at least 2mm inside of the final dimension of
   your design.

 * Printing with borders: When using a border in your artwork, it is essential that your design use at least
6mm of white space from your border to the cut line to maintain a symmetric appearance.

 * Rich Black: When you want an area of solid black within a document, 100% black (K) will not result in a
   solid; saturated black. Instead, use Rich Black, as represented by C:100% / M:100% / Y:0% / K:100%.

 * Outlined Fonts: When submitting EPS files to us, you must convert your fonts to outlines. Outlining
eliminates the need to send fonts along your files, while maintaining a nice, crisp typeface.

 * Minimum Line Thickness: If you are using a line, be sure to make it at least .3 pt. thick to assure that it
   prints correctly.

 * Filenames should be kept short, maximum of 13 characters, and should contain no 'special' characters
   like * / - " : % etc...

 * PREFERRED SOFTWARE; If you are happy to send your original design to us to manipulate ready for the
web or to print CorelDraw is the main backbone software for our businesss and we can open any version
up to 14. If supplying in this format please include a copy of all fonts used along with a PDF copy of your
   original design.
